Folktales is small. A loft to sleep in, a deep bath to disappear into, and a little wood fire for nights when the weather turns.

You can spend the day chasing the coastline. Or make another coffee and stay exactly where you are. We’ve made room for both.

A NOTE FROM THE TWO OF US

Dear fellow wanderer,

We’re Dommy and Bren. We’ve spent years travelling slowly, staying in places that felt like someone had put a bit of themselves into them.

Those are the ones we remember.

So when we made a place of our own, we wanted it to feel that way. Timber with character. Things we’d collected. A bath worth making time for. Enough comfort that you might happily cancel your plans.

Our little house began in Tasmania, built with cedar and Tasmanian oak. She found her way to Esperance. Now you’ve found your way here, too.

We hope you’ll feel at home.

Where are we, exactly?+

Castletown, Esperance, Western Australia. One street back from the beach. Your arrival information includes the address and directions.

Just the two of us?+

Yes. The whole house is yours, for up to two guests. It’s lovely for a solo stay, too. The house isn’t suited to children or pets.

Tell us about those stairs.+

The queen bedroom is in a loft reached by stairs, without full standing height. The layout may not suit guests with limited mobility. Ask us anything about the space before you book.

What’s already there?+

Linen, towels, tea and coffee, a Chemex coffee maker, and a kitchen with a fridge/freezer and gas cooktop. There’s a hair dryer, air conditioning and a wood fire with firewood supplied.

When do we arrive and leave?+

Check-in is from 3 pm. Check-out is by 11 am. You’ll have the place to yourselves, with a local team member available if you need a hand.
